Nate dances like a white man, and is sick and tired of people snickering behind his back about it. So, he turns it around on them and says "Yeah, well, you...you..you all are a bunch of...of...GENTILES!!!" It was followed by a vigorous round of "Nanny nanny boo boo, you can't hurt me!" and "Stupid head!"

Naturally, Kaimi follows Nate's lead, having nothing better to post on, only he gets more vicious in his description of his accusers. They are like a pack of wolves. Yes, the way in which they travel in groups attacking the weak and sickly, stalking them, running them down until they are tired and biting the ankles of their prey until it collapses and is surrounded and dispatched and eaten. Yep, there you go, there is a good analogy. I recall one time seeing a full time missionary with a flat tire being overtaken by a group of evangelicals he was fleeing from and being eviscerated while still alive. When it was all over, there was nothing left but some styrofoam from his helmet and a greasy smear in the road.

Karen over at BCC then tried to add a dose of civility to the discourse by pointing out that being a Mormon doesn't always hurt a person. But, being the voice of moderation always results in being drowned out.

Yes, its true, some ignorant bigots hate Mormons. Wow, what a surprise. A lot of people have no idea what Mormons are really all about, and even more just simply don't care. Not even one little bit. And that is why people aren't reading and reviewing Bushman's book.

Lets take action, T&Sophiles! Here is what all of you should do to those wolves trying to take Mormonism down:

Classify everyone who isn't a member of the LDS church, including Jews but excluding Native Americans and Polynesians, as "Gentiles" and mock them for not being able to hide their ignorance from us,

Pretend the LDS church doesn't have a long and colorful history of bad mouthing our detractors or stigmatizing certain religious/racial/political groups, and Mormons in general aren't a socially normative group with their own inherint biases and unpleasant points of bigotry,

Have DKL be a public relations front man, since he isn't wierd and will convince worldly people everyone that Mormons aren't annoying. Steve EM will assist as his companion, since he is the voice of moderation and tolerance and an effective missionary,

And, above all, do not turn the other cheek and seek to help others who are genuinely, not deliberately, ignorant gain greater understanding.

Are blacks and Mormons equally discriminated against? Hardly. McMansion Mormons should count their blessings.

Interesting tone for you Snarky, sounds like this one was written by a BCCer. I disagree with about half of your post, but particularly the last paragraph. I don’t think any of these posts have suggested anything even like it. And frankly, it’s a pretty unfair criticism.

As for the gentile thing, I think The Book of Mormon and the early prophets used it to describe those outside of the House of Israel. I don’t sense that the word is inherently pejorative, though I suppose there are some people who use it as such. But I don’t see how it’s too much different from referencing those who are not members of the church as “non-members.” I suppose we are moving into an age of PC-superiority where it will be inappropriate to refer to the set of all people who are not members of the church by any name at all.

Your reaching here snarky. This isn't funny. It is just preachy.

Ronan said... @ March 13, 2006 at 5:50 PM

Wait, there's a BCCer who writes for SN? Identify yourself to your compadres!

Anonymous said... @ March 13, 2006 at 6:20 PM

Watch out Snarkie or the Mormon Mafia might give you what you deserve. :-)

I for one thought this was funny as hell, but I'm just an M* troll and anti-mormon so take it FWIW.

Thanks for the link to Fark. Hehe. My favorite was the "I can't...I'm Mormon" image. Yeeeeowwww! That hurts the gentile sensibilites.

Preach on, lil chihuahua. You're saving the world one snark at a time.

Anonymous said... @ March 13, 2006 at 6:29 PM

PS. If you happen to be an M* kind of Mormon, **DO NOT FOLLOW THE FARK LINK**

You'll lose the spirit and be miserable and this will just piss you off. I'd hate to see you have to be anything but happy.

Anonymous said... @ March 13, 2006 at 7:08 PM

Um, yeah. They forgot: Utah-we'll put anything in JELLO

Neither blacks or mormons are as discriminated against as they like to present. What exactly are the qualifications to be a McMansion Mormon?

Response to Jodi Stoddard said... @ March 13, 2006 at 8:00 PM

Oh, golly gee willikers, sorry eric russell. How about next time we write up a post, we'll run it past you for editorial input before we post it? You don't like it? Guess what? Don't read us. Think you can do better, how about you submit something you think is funny, and lets see how well you do.

And, anonymous coward (T&S permabore, or wife thereof), thanks for the meaningless criticism. When you can do better, go ahead and do that instead of whine. Get a pacifier already.

Heather O. said... @ March 13, 2006 at 9:11 PM

Wives of T&S permabores are not anonymous cowards. We would tell you that you're a preaching jerk to your face.

You know, FWIW.

Anonymous said... @ March 14, 2006 at 12:54 AM

The person who makes fun of other people anonymously calls an anonymous commenter a coward.

Eric Russell said... @ March 14, 2006 at 1:41 AM

Snarker, whether or not it was funny is not the issue here. (But your non-sequitur response was kind of amusing.)

Part of the luxury of being Snarkernacle, I suppose, is being able to make genuine criticisms and then deflect all counter-criticisms with feigned innocence and a claim to nothing but light-hearted humor.

Maybe what we need is a blog that snarks Snarkernacle.

Response to Jodi Stoddard said... @ March 14, 2006 at 6:39 AM

Eric, yeah, so why don't you go ahead and do that. We cannot wait to see how clever and on topic you are. Making a silk purse out of sow's ear ain't all that easy, lets see you do it, Mr. WhineyPants.

Heather O, you, or your husband by proxy, calling someone else a jerk is just picking at motes, hun. Heather, take a minute and think about something: Some people who are very active on the Nacle never get snarked. Why do you think that is? Because they aren't pretentious, pedantic, self-absorbed, self-promoters riddled with insecurities that cause them to publicly preen over themselves while belittling everyone around them at every given opportunity.

Anonymous coward, we have explained repeatedly the reason we maintain anonymity, and it is not because of cowardice. We maintain anonymity so what we are doing here is not a personal attack. Which is completely different from what cowards like you are doing.

Anonymous said... @ March 14, 2006 at 8:58 AM

Please direct me to the places where you've explained why you retain your anonymity (I haven't been following this site for long) or give it another go. From your brief explanation, I don't understand your reasoning.

"If you happen to be an M* kind of Mormon"

Ah, the generalizing never ends...

Anonymous Coward, see AnneGB's comments at the bottom of this one for a good summation of the utility of the SN, and she is a non-participant here. Also see here. One correction to that last link though, as we have added one more member to Team SnarkerNacle recently, and also Shizzle and Dazzle.

Anonymous said... @ March 14, 2006 at 11:08 AM

"Ah, the generalizing never ends..."

Rah-ro rel-roy, we've struck a nerve. :-)

What ever did I mean by "M* kind of Mormon"? Sorry if I offended.

signed,

A "mormonArchist/anti-mormon/troll kind of Mormon."

The Snarker says:

"In no way is it the intention of the SnarkerNacle to hurt people's feelings, to degrade, or to belittle."

The Snarker says:

"Some people who are very active on the Nacle never get snarked. Why do you think that is? Because they aren't pretentious, pedantic, self-absorbed, self-promoters riddled with insecurities that cause them to publicly preen over themselves while belittling everyone around them at every given opportunity."

Um...yeh...right...

"You see, if the anonymous snarkers were unmasked, then this whole thing would be a pointed personal attack. And that isn't the intent here."

It's not? Why the obsession with Kaimi, DKL, and Nate? Besides which, why are anonymous personal attacks not really personal attacks? My dumb anonymous coward brain doesn't understand...

Or a former BCCer, Ronan.

Response to Jodi Stoddard said... @ March 14, 2006 at 12:57 PM

Dear Anonymous Cowards,

When people go out in public and act out, deliberately seeking attention by preening overtly, then the public is going to look at them and talk about them. That is what a public forum is all about. But, alas, the objects of the discussion only like it when the discussion is favorable, and never unfavorable, no matter how badly they act. "How dare you point out I am acting like a complete jackass!" Give it a rest. Sure, anyone who wants can go onto T&S and fawn over how smart and clever the permabores are, but don't you dare point out what a bunch of pompous twits they are, no matter how obvious it is.

The reason certain people get hit more often than others is because they act out more often than others, typically in antisocial ways. And, your list of people about whom we obsess about it rather short, which is understandable give the self-admittedly feeble condition of your brain.

But, then, anonymous cowards, your particular interest in only those persons does tend to narrow down the pool of people whom you probably are. It doesn't matter. You all are trying to get us to stop hammering you and your pals, but its pointless. You see, pretty much everyone else already thinks what we are saying, its just that we are saying it. Us not saying it doesn't change the fact that the permabores are a bunch of pretentious self-absorbed egomaniacs. You know, you can go onto T&S and kiss butts all day long, but don't you dare point out that its an ass you are kissing. Oh no, don't even think about it.

Anonymous said... @ March 14, 2006 at 2:09 PM

So it is meant as a personal attack. Thanks for the clarification.

Anonymous Coward I

Anonymous said... @ March 14, 2006 at 6:48 PM

Okay, I read those links. Unconvincing, to say the least. You're saying that if you revealed who you were, that the things you say about other people would become personal, but that if you don't, they're not?

Response to Jodi Stoddard said... @ March 15, 2006 at 7:14 AM

Anonymous cowards,

I realize you have an agenda here and are trying to make a point, but I am afraid nobody here really cares. You see, most people who come here are reading it because they like it. Naturally, people who are the targets come around to see what people are saying about them, and that is why you are here, and they don't like it. But, that is just too bad. Sorry. Wah.

Why don't you take Eric's advice and go start your blog that snarks the Snarker, and lets see how good you are promoting self-promoters while attackting their detractors. You can call it the Permabore Brown-noser's League, and point out how clever they are and how stupid and unfunny we are. Now that sounds like something Nate and Kaimi would read, over and over again.

Good luck with that.

Anonymous said... @ March 15, 2006 at 8:42 AM

Nah. I'd rather have you try to explain why you think being anonymous makes your personal attacks not personal. Unless, of course, you can't . . .

Anonymous said... @ March 15, 2006 at 9:38 AM

Obviously the Snarker can't explain the personal attacks, but it sure is fun to see him/them try over and over and over again. This is obviously somebody that keeps getting wasted in arguments by the likes of Nate, Kaimi and DKL in the real world so he comes back here to his turf and makes fun of them anonymously. It works for me. I think the Snarkers frickin' hilarious. Even if he does sometimes miss the mark and even if he is a yellow-bellied coward. Keep it up Snarky. There is no question you are a coward, but you're a funny coward. Take heart.

Response to Jodi Stoddard said... @ March 15, 2006 at 9:46 AM

There isn't any point in trying to explain something to someone who isn't interested in listening, but only accusing. And that is all you are doing. But, allow me to challenge you on what you are insinuating:

Nobody here has any vested interest in attacking any specific person. People get snarked when they do something silly, dumb or easily misconstrued or distorted on the Nacle. If some one person makes a fool of themselves more often, then they get snarked more often. If they don't, then they don't. End of story. That is why people like Steve EM get hit frequently, because of what they post.

If you would like to show some evidence of someone on the Nacle who has been overlooked by us, owing to the personal bias you are alleging, then please present it. What one person has acted like an goofball/dork/insert-dergatory-epithet-here on the Nacle, and we haven't called them on it? I'm certainly not aware of any.

And, if any one person we have snarked hasn't acted like a jerk on the Nacle and we have innacurately represented them, then please present evidence suggesting we are wrong. Please prove that Nate isn't a pedantic know-it-all windbag, that Kaimi doesn't post all over the place yammering about boobies and his SSA for Rusty, that DKL doesn't villify everyone and shovel steaming piles of poo at anyone who dares question him, and so on and so on and so on. If those characterizations are innacurate, then say so and prove it.

We are equal opportunity offenders here. If you don't like it, then that's just too bad. Don't want to get snarked? Then don't act like a jerk. Its just that easy.

Response to Jodi Stoddard said... @ March 15, 2006 at 9:50 AM

another anonymous,

Yup, you are right, we are all just a bunch of yellow-bellied cowards who constantly get our butts kicked by DKL, Nate and Kaimi. So, all you have to do is find someone who constantly gets their butt kicked by those three, and there you have it, the Snarker is busted. Pure genius.

Anonymous said... @ March 16, 2006 at 11:44 AM

"What one person has acted like an goofball / dork / insert- dergatory- epithet- here on the Nacle, and we haven't called them on it? I'm certainly not aware of any."

Well, you must have missed me.

But then again, I don't permablog (except once of FMH).
