Ryan at Blogger of Jared loves to hate the Israeli state. He complains about some injustices carried out, as reported by a totally unbaised Muslim second-hand source who relays a totally unimbellished account of horrid atrocities a Palestinian man personally endured.

History lesson: both sides in this conflict have committed egregious atrocities and both sides lie about their own actions and exagerate the other's. Most people who don't already hate the state of Israel recognize this.

But, the fun is at the end, when Ryan faults the Jews of the Israel state for failing to observe Jesus' teachings and Mormon expectations:

This is Zionism, the gathering of God’s elect? This is love thy neighbor? This is blessed are the meek? This is charity, the pure love of Christ?

    Ye Elders of Israel indeed.
Faulting Jews for failing to observe Jesus Christ's teachings, and Mormon notions of them gathering and establishing Zion as we see it. Now that makes sense, or at least it does to someone blinded by hate.

UPDATE:In between blaming us for all his personal problems, Ryan admits he sucks and sort of, but not really, retracts what he previously said and half-heartedly apologizes, while only just barely restraining himself from insisting he really is right.

I spent a few minutes trying to track down who originally said that Arabs and Israelis should settle their differences "like good Christians." It's surprisingly difficult.

Most sources using the quote (always ironically) attribute it to an unnamed American diplomat. Only one source (whose reliability I cannot vouch for) provides a name for the diplomat.

Other sources attribute the quote to a Congressman, with one source narrowing it down to a representative of Virginia. Of course it is possible that both a diplomat and a Congressman have made such a statement.

Attributions to W have been made in jest. He has never said this. Nor, contrary to one claim, did Jimmy Carter.

Snarkette:

I have already attempted to inform my distinguished co-blogger that he is mistaking the Israelis for run-of-the-mill American born-again Christians. He hasn't responded to my critique -- maybe he will feel so inclined to answer your snark?

Mormons suck because they don't keep Kosher.

You picked an interesting facet of my post to pick on.

The idea that Israel ought to exercise some decency.

Tell me Snarkette, why is it that you feel that judging someone for their murderous actions is more hateful than...say... murderous actions?

Does it matter whether the teachings come from Jesus Christ, Mormon notions or from Al at Al's mechanic shop?

Would you suggest that maybe I should fault the Jews only when they fail to keep to their own standards? Can you not see the inherent flaws in judging someone by what they have conjured up to be right, rather than what is truly right?

The Nazi's were pretty sure they were right... oh but I wouldn't want to impose my "notions" on them. After all, they are living up to their own ideology quite satisfactorily.

I was almost ready to take Ryan's side, but that little temper tantrum convinces me that this snark might be on to something. Ryan is practically panting by the end of that comment! It actually reminded me of something Dwight Schrute from "The Office" might say.

Ryan, you so don't even have a leg to stand on. Why someone hasn't accused you of being a flat out anti-semite yet is beyond me. You are so obviously off the deep end here, buddy.

If someone kidnaps one of my family members and attacks our home, am I not justified in retaliating for our safety? Just a question.

Anonymous said... @ July 14, 2006 at 7:04 AM

According to U.S. law, and general Christian principles, no you are not justified in retaliating for your safety. Just an answer

Thats not true. After the third unprovoked attack, you can defend yourself. Read the D&C lately?

knowing my family it probably WOULD have been provoked...giggle, snort, laugh
