The last time Elder Ballard endorsed blogging, the 'Nacle was all a-twitter that a member of the 12 had taken note of its existence.

That notion was largely disabused here.

However, the more I read Elder Ballard's remarks, the more I'm convinced he is aware of the Nacle. Yes, 'Nacle, Elder Ballard knows about you!

Think about it:

Elder Ballard, speaking to young, newly-minted BYU-I grads:

... Elder Ballard suggested that graduates join in conversations on the Internet to share the gospel and to explain the message of the Restoration in simple, clear terms.

Elder Ballard, speaking to mothers with young children:

... don’t allow yourself to be caught up in the time-wasting, mind-numbing things like television soap operas or surfing the Internet.

Prediction: Elder Ballard's October 2008 conference talk will be titled, "Lawyers Who Know."

Discuss.

I was also a bit struck by the seemingly-opposite words of advice. I guess the difference is that we should be involved in the conversations online, but we should be moderate about the time we spend there. Some things are more important that can be put behind (like the homework I'm not doing at the moment) if we're not careful.

It's easy. This is a job for FMH, as Ballard is clearly staking out the internet as a male only domain. Mothers/Women who know should stay away from the net, but college educated fathers/men are okay when they start blogs.

Yeah, I really should quit mindlessly surfing the internet and pay more attention to my kids. Oh wait - I don't have any kids! Obviously the non-child-burdened (oops! I meant blessed) weren't the target of his talk. I can surf away guilt-free.

He also said that we need to go easy on illegal aliens because they're human beings. And the FLDS children?
But, I'd cut him some slack. Imagine trying to say the right thing to 'everyone' in every talk. He's only human. People keep expecting these leaders to say everything perfect and that's just not going to happen.

Anyway, I miss your having new material, please don't fade away.

I enjoy the smiles.
