It was only a matter of time. A mere 18 hours after General Conference had been adjourned came the FMH Conference Report. Eight hours of conference sessions and ECS can’t find a single positive thing to say about the addresses other than this morsel:

I think Elder Ballard meant well…
President Monson’s address – his closing remarks where he spoke at length of his beloved wife and her lengthy stay in a hospital after recuperating from a tragic fall – left ECS “disheartened”. Kinda makes me wonder exactly what it would take to impress ECS.

If the Church were to take ECS’ counsel to action, both mothers and fathers of young children would be exempted from callings other than hymnbook collecting. This begs the question - who would be left to run the wards and branches? No doubt complaints about ageism would flood the ‘nacle.

You can please all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but the gals over at FMH? No how, no way.

So the self-described king of negative feedback is dismayed at negative conference feedback ...

Ironic.

Did you expect something different? You thought they'd stand up and cheer? Their whole blog is designed around finding things to whine about in church policy/doctrine/leaders.

I HAVE to think their whole lives don't revolve around that, and they just spew their venom into cyberspace, and then get back to normal living. Nobody can be that pissy all the time. It would take way too much energy.

Hmm.. anal retentive whining?

That's the entire point of this blog...

Brother Shizzle,

Where is your post about Heather Oman still complaining about "Mothers Who Know" six months later! Can you please be more consistent about smacking down women who complain about conference?

Thank you.

I agree with you. I normally respect the viewpoint of FMH, even when I don't agree, but reading that post and comments, they've gone over the line for me. It does seem like they are impossible to please. Just to comment on one talk, I don't see how anyone could listen to Elder Ballard's talk and think that it is offensive to women.

I've actually heard a number of people today say that they felt Elder Ballard's address was in part a polite rebuttal to "Mothers Who Know."

Anon (comment #2): honestly, you must not read the entirety of the blog if you think all we ever do is whine and find fault. Pay attention or be quiet, please. Feel free to pillory us over specifics, but for the love of heaven leave the 3rd grader unqualified generalizations at home.

As for President Monson's wife: it's my general impression that she's simply a quiet type not prone to complaint. I understand ECS's weariness with the "tireless wife" bit because it does get old and a lot of women interpret such thanks as advice that they should, no matter what, shut up. If the prophet had been lambasting women who do sigh over their absent spouses, I'd have been cheesed as well. But is she simply didn't complain because she's remarkably patient, rather than oppressed or pressured into silence (which I doubt considering her hubby's kind and generous personality, well then she deserves all the public gratitude she gets. Also a lot of chocolate and cheese. And a cruise.

geez, Janet, have you actually read fMh? If it followed your advice it would have to shut down.
